Motorbike and a Model, Simple by FHphoto

This shoot started as something really simple, just going down the road and take some snaps of a motorbike in various positions, and then have a model pose next to it, what’s so hard about that?

Well, nothing really is that simple, the photos might look simple but as photographers you all know how frustrating it could be making all the ingredients fit.

Ingredients are simple, just like cooking a beef casserole for example. You got the meat, some veggies, a pot and cook it for a certain time. A photoshoot is just like that, you have the main subject, a secondary subject or prop, a location and the time between shutter clicks.

However, being able to replicate efficiently these simple photoshoots are what makes up most of a photographer’s work schedule. Sure we all like to shoot a Ferrari in an exotic location, who wouldn’t? But back to reality, these simple shoots are the bread and butter of our business.

Enjoy!!

1.

This is probably the must-have shot. The proud owners with his/her machine. The points to look out for when doing this particular shot is depth of field, sharpness, good lighting.

Depth of field – Enough separation between the background and the foreground.

Sharpness – Most cases, this is the shot that will get blown up, so use a good shutter speed.

Lighting – Don’t need to do anything extreme, just a simple 45 degree light, provided free to you from the Sun.

Settings: 1/640 @ f2.8 @ 200ISO … the lens was 70-200mm f2.8 @ 200mm

2.

When people think about a motorbike, they think of something fast.

Still all natural light here, key to this is know where to shoot from and how the light will fall onto the subject.

Settings: 1/60 @ f7.1 @ 100 ISO … the lens was 70-200mm f2.8 @ 200mm

Now onto the model, the lighting on this wall was quite dramatic and suited the profile of the bike.

Lighting: AB800 with shoot-through umbrella coming from the left, at very low power. Timing is everything when using the sun as a power source, this shadow on the wall only lasted 15 minutes or so.

Settings: 1/200 @ f7.1 @ 100 ISO … the lens was 70-200mm f2.8 @ 70mm

4.

The day is still quite bright, I deliberately wanted to darken the scene, and creating a spotlight effect.

Lighting: AB800 with folded shoot-through umbrella from the right, pointing mostly toward the left edge of the frame.

Settings: 1/200 @ f9 @ 100 ISO … the lens was 70-200mm f2.8 @ 95mm
